Compost Center

When October approaches, leaves begin changing color, and as the first of them drift gently from the trees, homeowners are reminded of the task which lies before them. Leaf raking is a major fall activity, but because of the compost center located in the Village, leaf disposal is not difficult.

Composting hours on Wednesdays will be expanded, and the Center will be open at 8:00 a.m., and remain open until 4:00 p.m.                   Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Leaves destined for the compost center should be bagged either in disposable paper bags or in regular plastic leaf bags. It is necessary that all material be removed from all containers in order to protect the tub grinder which processes the composting material. Paper bags can be left for recycling; plastic bags should be removed to either be put in the garbage or reused.

Under no circumstances may leaves be raked into the street; this is illegal.

Street sweeping operations are conducted in each area of the Village of Hazel Crest the week following brush pickup. Residents are reminded that the street sweeping function is much more effective if the entire street is swept. Therefore, residents are asked to avoid having cars parked on the street during sweeping times if this is at all possible.

The cooperation of all residents will be appreciated and will result in a neater appearance for all the Village neighborhoods.
