Boards and Commissions
The Village’s volunteer boards and commissions are composed of residents appointed by the Village Board who have special expertise and are committed to maintaining the standards of the Village. Many decisions made by Village Government are based upon the recommendations of these boards and commissions.
Oversees the local adjudication courts for non-moving traffic violations and for property code violations.
The Beautification Commission
Ensures the quality of Village-owned trees and woodlands, reviews landscape plans, and promotes the importance of nature and environmental health to residents. The Commission also selects the best-landscaped homes for annual Beautification Awards during the summer and Tree-Lighting Awards for the prettiest holiday decorations.
The Board of Fire & Police Commissioners
Tests, appoints, and handles general disciplinary matters, suspends, and dismisses personnel within the Village’s Police and Fire Departments.
The Community Relations Commission
Works to maintain positive relations among all persons living and working within the Village of Hazel Crest. Also hosts a variety of events and projects, including a Holiday Giving Tree for local children in need.
Works to attract economic development to the Village and also supports local businesses.
Promotes health and healthy lifestyles within the community. Educates residents on diabetes, heart disease, stroke prevention, breast and prostate cancer, and other diseases affecting the community.
Open Lands Committee
Works to develop, improve and beautify the Village’s Open Lands areas.
The Planning & Zoning Commission
Monitors and updates the Comprehensive Development Planning and Zoning ordinances for the Village and conducts public hearings on zoning classifications and variances.
